Mandatory EPCS in Washington

Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5380 into law on May 8th, 2019. This Act required prescribers to electronically prescribe all controlled substance prescriptions by January 1st, 2021. The effective date was later pushed to September 30th, 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Washington Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring

All prescribers and dispensers are required to consult the state PMP prior to prescribing or dispensing any controlled substance.

Washington does not currently offer an integration with their Controlled Substances PMP. Through an integration, prescribers can go directly to the patient's PMP report without having to log in to the PMP and search for the patient.
